I've been working with MetLife on a MetLife short sale (worked through a 3rd party MetLife hired called Service Link - See Wall comment about them).
We received an offer which was submitted to Service Link who submitted it to Metife. After a considerable amount of time, MetLife came back with a counter offer which was for the entire amount due plus attorney fees, etc., The counter offer from MetLife was way about the actual value of the home. The buyer was given just 72 hours to agree to the full counter offer amount or the short sale would be denied.
However, that was followed up by a notice just hours later from MetLife (through Service Link), that MetLife had declined the short sale and foreclosed on the property. The sellers were not allowed any other option, such as deed-in-lieu or anything else.
MetLife's counter offer was totally unreasonable, with only one outcome possible, the buyer rejecting the counter offer.
After this experience with MetLife, I don't know if I will again work any short sales that involve MetLife.
For any of you who do, best of luck with them.
